Sweet Mickie Cookies on table

Sweet Mickie goes 99% plastic-free and delivers an elevated gifting experience with Geami

Signet's paper bubble wrap alternative help Sweet Mickie stay 99% plastic-free, keep their products protected, and create an enhanced unboxing experience for their customers.

Curated cookie company, Sweet Mickie was brought to life by founder Emma Head’s family ginger biscuit recipe and a sassy sense of humour. Seeing a gap in the market for gift giving, Emma set out to deliver sweet, feel-good moments through a delicious alternative.

“We’ve always used a funny tone in our messaging that people really appreciate. Whatever the occasion, we want to spread joy and ‘take the mickie’ through customised cookies.” — Emma Head, Sweet Mickie Owner and Founder.

In addition to making people smile through their sweet treats, Sweet Mickie has made sustainability a priority in their business — completely eliminating plastic packaging from their supply chain.

“We now use corn-based compostable packets to package all our cookies, home compostable mailers to ship our orders, and everything else is recyclable. Anything new we look to add, needs to fit in with our eco-friendly values.”

In the past few years, COVID-19 sparked an increase in demand for gift-delivery services. To cater to this, Sweet Mickie introduced a range of curated add-ons, such as alcohol and candles to complement their cookies. However, as these items were primarily glass, they needed a packaging solution that would keep them protected, without the plastic.

Sweet Mickie turned to their packaging supplier Signet to find a suitable protective packaging solution. They now use Geami honeycomb wrap to protect their glass add-ons before they’re packaged into their gift boxes.

Geami is an eco-alternative to bubble wrap, made from a die cut kraft paper that stretches into a 3D honeycomb wrap to cushion and protect your fragile products, without the plastic! Being 100% paper means it’s 100% recyclable, so once it’s fulfilled its protective purpose, it can go straight into your kerbside recycling bin.

Since introducing Signet’s paper protective packaging, Sweet Mickie have seen no damages in transit. It’s also meant they’ve been able to stay 100% plastic-free and are giving their customers a great gifting experience.

“Of course, sustainability always comes first, but we also need our packaging to be functional as well as look good. Geami has delivered on all three and fits seamlessly into our packaging process.”
