Each year, an adventurous spirit and selfless compassion have kept these Aussie brothers coming back to support Variety Children’s Charity — bringing hope to kids and their families in need.
For Paul and Brett Gould, what began as an Aussie adventure quickly turned into something that changed their lives forever. Little did these brothers know when they set out on this trip — it would offer far more than just a lifetime of memories!
“Myself and my two brothers, Brett and Bradley had always talked about doing one of the Variety events and one year we decided, let’s stop talking about it and just do it! Once you’re in it though, that’s when it really hits you, what you’re a part of and the difference you’re making to these families and the kids.” – Paul Gould, Variety Medical Volunteer
Variety is a children’s charity providing support to kids and families facing their own set of challenges. Their work is driven by their mission, to ensure all kids have a fair go in life, no matter their ability or circumstance.
Every year, Variety hosts three motoring events to help raise funds for the charity — the Variety Bash, the Jet Trek, and the 4WD Adventure. Each event hosts fundraising throughout the year and the event itself is a celebration of all their hard work.
As a nurse and long-time supporter of Variety events, Paul jumped at the opportunity when an old friend contacted him looking for medical volunteers. After three years as a participant in these events, this was a chance for him to get more involved!
“The Variety events take us out to a lot of remote regional places, where they may just have one nurse in a small clinic. If there were to be an incident, we don’t want to put a strain on these towns already limited resources. So, that’s really what we as medical team are there to do"
As a charity event, providing this medical resource involves raising additional funds to ensure it doesn’t impact the overall fundraising efforts for the year. Nearing the Variety 4WD Adventure, which saw Aussies from near and far trek from Townsville to Cape York, Paul and Bret were looking to raise additional funds to provide these much needed resources.
After hearing their story, Signet got behind these two Aussie brothers in backing their team for all the three events throughout the year, so they could focus on doing what they do best — making these events safe and enjoyable for all.
