No-nonsense international craft brewery, BrewDog, has been shaking up the Aussie craft beer scene since landing on our shores in 2019. After switching to Signet’s automated pallet wrap solution, they have downgauged their plastic usage, achieved a better yield from each roll of pallet wrap, and improved warehouse efficiencies.
Founded in Scotland in 2007, BrewDog quickly gained a loyal international following with their local taphouses, no-nonsense attitude and innovative craft beer range. In 2019, BrewDog expanded to Australia, opening their first brewery in Brisbane. Since then, they have become a popular name in the local industry, with award-winning beers, five popular community focused locations (across Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth), and a nationwide distribution network.
With BrewDog’s growing popularity came increasing distribution challenges. Their Brisbane taphouse and brewery ships up to twenty pallets of product weekly and brews an impressive 10,000 hectolitres annually. BrewDog had relied on a labour-intensive process of manual pallet wrapping, using a handheld wrapping machine. While this approach was effective for smaller operations, it soon became inefficient as demand grew.
“We were wrapping all our pallets by hand. This was very labour intensive and was also giving us an inconsistent wrap.” – Peter Quinn, BrewDog Packaging Manager
Recognising the limitations of their current distribution process, BrewDog needed a more scalable and efficient solution. To solve the challenges BrewDog was facing, Signet recommended a more automated solution that included the Y-GEN-8 2000B Pallet Stretch Wrapper and downgauging to Signet’s Own Cast Machine Pallet Wrap.
Signet’s Y-GEN-8 2000B Pallet Stretch Wrapper was a game-changer for BrewDog’s warehouse operations. This semi-automatic machine is specifically designed for bigger operations and getting the most out of each roll of pallet wrap, safely stretching it up to 200% of its original yield. Key features like an automatic cutter, adjustable turntable speed, film carriage speed, and top/bottom wrap settings allowed them to wrap pallets consistently and efficiently, ensuring full protection for their products and reduced plastic wastage.
Alongside the machine wrapper, BrewDog adopted Signet’s Own Cast Machine Pallet Wrap, downgauging from a 20UM film to a 17UM film and significantly reducing their plastic usage. This high-quality wrap offered extra stretch and tension, giving BrewDog the benefit of a tighter, more sustainable and secure wrap without compromising on stability or quality.
“Now we have the machine wrapper, it gives us a consistent wrap every time and is also reducing our plastic by giving us a better yield out of each roll by stretching it”.
The Y-GEN-8 2000B Pallet Stretch Wrapper and Signet's Own Cast Machine Pallet Wrap have helped BrewDog keep up with increasing demand, improve warehouse productivity, and minimise their environmental impact—all while ensuring their popular craft beers reach customers in perfect condition.
