Sustainable Packaging: Why Green is the New Black

The environmental impacts of excessive waste have generated significant consumer awareness in recent years.

From reusable coffee cups to reusable shopping bags, Australian consumers are making a conscious effort to reuse, recycle, and responsibly dispose of their waste.

This environmental shift is also having an impact on consumer purchasing decisions, with a recent study reporting that a third of consumers are now choosing to buy from brands they believe are doing social or environmental good.

When your brand ethos and products are built on a foundation of sustainable choices, it is essential that this environmental initiative also extends to the product packaging used to transport the goods through the logistical supply chain.

Using recyclable packaging materials not only benefits the environment, but it also makes consumers feel good about purchasing from that brand. Research states that 82% of consumers value receiving a package from an online retailer that they can recycle, while 33% of these consumers would be willing to pay more for environmentally friendly packaging.

For Signet’s customer Lush, purchasing products that don’t cost the earth is a core value ingrained in each decision made. When buying cosmetic ingredients and supplies, Lush makes responsible decisions based on environmental and socio-economic impacts.

These decisions also extend to their product and logistics packaging. Lush understands that packaging generates an enormous amount of waste yearly, so when it comes to packaging at Lush, less is more. In a quest to reduce waste, Lush went naked in 2008, solidifying over half of its products to save millions of tonnes of packaging ending up in landfill each year.

When packaging is used, it is environmentally friendly. Lush sources 100% recycled pots and bottles to avoid virgin plastic and save bottles from landfill.  This environmental initiative also extends to the online shipment of their orders. Lush uses Ranpak FillPak TT supplied by Signet to pack their eCommerce orders. Ranpak is a 100% recyclable and reusable paper packing solution.
