Chef and restaurateur, Peter Taing, started Fitmeals Australia after being approached by some fitness friends about making them meals for their bodybuilding competition prep. Word quickly got around, and with the interest and demand for his meals continuing to grow he decided to turn this side hustle into a full-time business.
Fitmeals Australia look to provide their customers with fresh chef-prepared meals, made the same day they’re delivered. They’ve since expanded on their range of made-to-order meals to include protein balls, loose leaf tea and supplements available through their eCommerce store, and frozen meals supplied into gyms and supplement stores.
While they had making delicious, fresh, chef-prepared meals down pat, one of their biggest challenges was ensuring they stayed that way for their customers. Fitmeals had previously trialled ice packs from alternative suppliers but kept facing two issues — the shape of the ice pack and how long they would stay cold.
“We use Styrofoam boxes, which fit out meals perfectly but leave little room for ice packs. The alternative ice packs we’d tried, once frozen, wouldn’t sit flat enough that we could put them on top and still shut the lid, we’d have to remove meals. They’d also been receiving complaints from customers about the security of their deliveries if left unattended. The Styrofoam boxes don’t require any tape to secure them, however, this meant there was no way to know if the box had been tampered with. So, they wanted to find a solution to seal their cartons and give their customers peace of mind.
