What is Pallet Strapping?

Pallet Strapping, also known as pallet banding, is an essential method used to secure goods during shipping and logistics. It involves the use of strong materials such as Polyester, Polypropylene, Steel, Zinc, and Poly-Woven which can be applied either manually or with a strapping machine. The use of Pallet Strapping can prevent movement, damage, and potential loss of goods during transit by enhancing load stability and simplifying handling procedures. Additionally, every type of Pallet Strapping will require the necessary Strapping Tools and Accessories, to ensure the safety of shipments and efficient warehouse operations.

How to choose the right Strapping Material?

When it comes to picking the perfect Pallet Strapping, you want to make sure you're making the right choice for your Pallet Strapping needs. So, how do you do that? Well, first things first, consider the weight and type of your load, the level of tension required, and the environment in which your pallet will be transported and stored. We’ll take you through the ins and outs of the different types of Strapping Signet has available and what they are best suited for—so you can make the right decision!

What types of Pallet Strapping are available?

Signet has a type of Pallet Strapping available for all your different needs! We take you through each different type below, and their main features and benefits so you can easily determine which one is best for you.

Zinc & Steel Strapping

  • Strongest pallet strapping available
  • Highest tensile rating
  • Extremely durable and resistant to the elements
  • Ideal for heavy loads

Steel is the pioneer of Strapping, and still the most commonly used material to this day! Despite many other Strapping materials being introduced to the market, it has maintained its popularity by being the strongest and toughest of them all.  Ideal for heavy and rigid loads, Steel Strapping will keep your goods locked and loaded all throughout its journey. It has the highest tensile rating and is notorious for being inflexible, which is ideal for those solid and bulky loads as they won’t budge a bit! As well as this, Steel Strapping is ready to take on rain, hail, or shine with its durability, UV and temperature resistance.

Unique to Signet, we also offer Zinc Strapping. The rust-resistant zinc coating is ideal for protection against adverse weather conditions.

What Zinc & Steel Strapping Accessories will I need?

To start on your Steel Strapping journey, you’ll need a few tools to get the job done. Signet offers Snap on Seals and a Tensioner, Crimper, Cutter and Dispenser all designed for Steel specifically. Alternatively, there is a Steel Combination Tool which will seal the Strap for you! And just to make things even easier, Signet offers a STEELSTART pack which includes all the necessities. Keep in mind suitable PPE for Steel Strapping, gloves and safety glasses are recommended when handling this material to help keep you safe.

Polyester Strapping

  • Strongest plastic pallet strapping
  • Flexible pallet strapping option
  • Eco-friendly— made from post-consumer waste (recycled PET bottles)
  • Ideal for medium to heavy loads

If you’re looking for a strong alternative to Steel Strapping, look no further than our Polyester range! The strongest of all the plastic Strapping materials, Polyester has made a name for itself on the market. Per kilogram, Polyester is stronger than Steel, and a whole lot more flexible! Polyester is a great place to start on your Strapping journey, as it is easier and safer to use than Steel if you are just starting out. Make sure you are wary of your goods' future journey, as Polyester Strapping can lose tension over time after being exposed to the elements.

What Polyester Strapping Accessories will I need?

To get set up for Polyester Strapping you’ll need PET seals, a Heavy Duty Tensioner, PET Crimper and PET Strapping Dispenser. If you’re looking to save some time, Signet sells a PET & PP Battery Combination Strap Tool which does all the tensioning, welding and cutting for you. Don’t worry- Signet also has a starter pack with all the essentials if you’re new to Polyester. Just quote PETSTART when placing your order.

Polypropylene Strapping

  • Most economical and versatile pallet strapping option
  • Very easy to work with (flexible)
  • Resistant to water and corrosive liquids
  • Ideal for lighter loads

Next up we have the lightest, most versatile and economical Strapping material on the market — Polypropylene! With many advantageous features, this Strapping material is perfect for those light-to-medium loads. Polypropylene Strapping is easy to work with, flexible, and resistant to water and corrosive liquids. It also has a high elongation rating, meaning it can withstand shocks and move your loads without breaking! Your products can be subject to movement during transit, due to its stretchiness and lower tensile rating than Steel- therefore is it suited for those lighter loads. However, Signet also offers a Heavy Band alternative if you require that additional strength! As well as Polyester Strapping, elements can affect Polypropylene’s performance over time, so it's best to avoid extreme temperatures.

What Polypropylene Strapping Accessories will I need?

For Polypropylene Strapping you’ll require either Metal or Plastic buckles depending on your preference, as well as a Polystrap Tensioner and Crimper. To save time, Signet has a starter pack ready to go with everything you need to get the job done, just quote PPSTART! Signet also stocks alternative accessories for your Heavy Band Polypropylene Strapping

Poly-Woven Strapping

  • Retains high tension over extended periods of time
  • Safer alternative to steel strapping (soft feel and edges)
  • Can be re-tensioned at any point
  • Ideal for medium to heavy loads
Signet Poly-Woven Pallet StrappingSignet Poly-Woven Pallet Strapping

Poly-Woven Strapping is a fantastic alternative to Steel Strapping if you’re looking for a softer material that’s still got a high level of tension! This material is super strong but will be a lot kinder to your products if there are any delicates on board. With no sharp edges and a soft feel, Poly-Woven Strapping will keep your goods secure while also providing a safer alternative to Steel. Additionally, Poly-Woven Strapping is built for endurance as it is unaffected by extreme temperature, humidity and chemical substances. Talk about an all-rounder!

What Poly-Woven Strapping Accessories will I need?

Poly-Woven Strapping keeps things nice and simple, only requiring three accessories to get the job done! Poly-Woven Buckles, a Poly-Woven Strap Stand Dispenser and a Heavy Duty Poly-Woven Tensioner can all be found on our website for purchase.
