After eliminating plastic from their packaging, light design and manufacturer, ADesignStudio, finds better alignment in Signet’s eco-friendly alternatives, creating a more premium unboxing experience for their customers.
A side hustle turned fully-fledged business, ADesignStudio is an award-winning light design and manufacturing studio founded in 2016 by Alex Fitzpatrick, who proudly creates bespoke light fittings for restaurants, hotels, and high-end residential projects around the world.
Proudly transforming the idea of light-fittings into functioning pieces of art, Alex found that packaging his lights in traditional forms of bubble wrap and plastic, although a necessary component to protecting goods in transit, failed to reflect the premium quality of his designs for consumers once their goods arrived.
“For us, packaging is extremely important because if we have to fix something that’s broken, it costs us a lot. So, if we are selling a high-end product and it breaks in transit, it can be quite detrimental to the customer. With an informal mission statement ‘To Raise The Bar,’ Alex explored how he could better align his packaging, whilst also looking to improve on his broader impact on the environment.
“Every time we produce something we try ‘to raise the bar’. With our designs, we are always trying to provide something of value that also has a nice story and reason behind it. As our packaging (or unpackaging) is part of this story, we looked to consider our footprint and ultimately raise our eco-standard in the process.”
Upon finding Signet online, Alex switched out his use of traditional bubble wrap and plastic packaging, opting for Geami WrapPak a 100% eco-friendly alternative to bubble wrap that combines 3D honeycomb paper with white tissue to safely wrap and protect fragile items in transit. The team at ADesignStudios also moved away from regular packing peanuts, opting to fill voids in packages with Signet’s biodegradable version Biofill, which dissolves in water.
Together, these products help safely secure and cushion each ADesignStudio creation before the team seals every Shipping Carton with Kraft Paper Tape, a 100% recyclable alternative to plastic tape.
