Fresh fish on ice

Humpty Doo keeps 60 tonnes of fish fresh in transit with Signet's packaging

Aussie family-owned Barramundi farm streamlines their logistics operations with Signet freight labels to identify fish size and destination. While Signet’s cold chain products ensure the produce stays fresh in transit.

Situated on the banks of the Adelaide River in the Northern Territory, sprawls Humpty Doo Barramundi. A premium saltwater Barramundi farm built on a foundation of quality produce and a deep respect for their natural surroundings.

The 100% Aussie, family-owned and operated farm has grown momentously, from a 300 kilogram harvest in 1993 to 60 tonnes in 2019. Humpty Doo Barramundi is now one of the largest producers of saltwater Barramundi in Australia, distributing to wholesalers and retailers across the country.

"In the beginning, there were crocs, mozzies, mangroves and a dream…more than 25 years on, the crocs, mozzies and mangroves are still there, and so are we.” —Tarun Richards, Humpty Doo Barramundi National Brand Manager.

Since 2011, Humpty Doo Barramundi has relied on Signet’s cold chain and logistics solutions to protect their produce in transit from pond to plate, and ensure they supply the freshest quality fish to their customer.

Australia has strict requirements when air freighting fresh fish. Signet’s Seafood Pads are used to prevent leaks, while the Super Chillwrap helps keep the product cooler for longer.

“Fish must be kept chilled and our logistics companies need to be confident that the packaging won’t leak. So, the Seafood Pads and Chillwrap are essential to our operation.”

Humpty Doo Barramundi uses a customised label solution manufactured by Signet which helps their distribution team identify the size of the fish in each box as well as the destination. They also use Signet’s State Pallet Labels which allow for quick pallet identification at a glance.

“We have built our business on providing a consistently high-quality product with reliable delivery. 60 tonnes of Barramundi per week is a lot of highly perishable product. The labels Signet supply enable us to streamline our logistics and facilitate delivering the Barramundi to the right location and a growing customer base.”

Humpty Doo Barramundi knows that they can source everything required to pack and ship their products from the one supplier, Signet. Which allows them to focus on expanding the farm while knowing their staff are safe, and their fish is getting to their customers in the freshest condition.
