How to use Bubble Wrap for Packing: The Complete Guide

When shipping fragile and delicate items, protective packaging is a must-have to ensure your items arrive in the same condition that you sent them in. Here's everything you'll need to know about using Bubble Wrap to pack and send your products.

Protective packaging is designed to cushion and protect items from damage during transit or storage. When products are shipped, they can be exposed to many elements during transit including rough handling, movement on trucks and dropping which can all lead to your products arriving at your customer's doorstep damaged.

So, what is Bubble?

Bubble Wrap is the OG protective packaging product. It’s a light, durable sheet with one side comprised of small plastic air bubbles that create a protective barrier against knocks, drops and more! While it’s traditionally sold in rolls, it can also be found in several other packing products, including Signet’s Own Durable Bubble Mailers — a water-resistant and tear-proof mailer that protects your delicate products, and Bubble Bags — a convenient packaging solution to save time and resources with fast and simple sealing.

Benefits of Bubble

When comparing your options for protective packaging, several factors are at play as you are wanting the best bang for your buck whilst getting the right protection to ensure your packages are safe in transit.

Lightweight

It’s important to consider the weight of the materials, as you don’t want to be adding unnecessary extra costs to your shipping. Bubble Wrap is extremely lightweight, making it a cost-effective addition to your fragile packages.

Cost Effective

Bubble Wrap is also one of the more affordable protective packaging options on the market. If you are sending large amounts of packages every day, we recommend buying in bulk, as you will avoid paying any cubing levies whilst also getting the best price per roll possible.

Reusable

Reuse, reuse, reuse. Bubble Wrap is not a single-use product and can continue to be used as protective packaging! As long as the majority of the air bubbles are still intact, it’s good to go.  P.S. It can also become a great stress reliever (pop those bubbles!) once you are done using it as protective packaging.

Recyclable

Now that your bubble wrap has provided the ultimate stress reliever, there is no need for it to be disposed of in landfill! It can be recycled at your local Woolworths or Coles supermarket, just look for the REDcycle bins. Click here to find your nearest REDcycle drop-off point. To ensure your bubble wrap continues on its ultimate eco afterlife, cut your bubble into A3 size pieces and remove any plastic adhesive tape.

Step One: Lay your Bubble Wrap on a flat surface with the air bubble side facing upwards. It’s important that you wrap your products with this side facing inwards to give the best protection possible.

Step Two: Wrap the sheet gently around the outside of the product, tucking it into corners and holes to get the most protection.

Step Three: Add extra Bubble Wrap or other protective materials inside the carton to fill any voids and ensure the item doesn’t move around in transit.

Step Four: Seal the carton with tape and you are ready to send your package off with the postie.
